Arts Education Partnership Cover Art Contest
The Arts Education Partnership (AEP) is seeking submissions of art to be featured as the cover design for the program of the AEP Fall National Forum, "Charting a Course for the Arts and 21st Century Learning" to be held October 2-3, 2009. Attendees are leaders in the field of arts education, including researchers, practitioners, and government representatives at the national, state and local level. The theme of the Fall National Forum focuses on the ways the principles of 21st century learning, particularly imagination, creativity and innovation, are incorporated, articulated and supported throughout the education system from pre-K to higher education. Opening Minds Through the Arts (OMA)
OMA's Arts Integration Academy gives participants a chance to explore the process of arts integration in a fun and supportive environment, learn how to enrich education through arts integration, develop classroom management strategies while maintaining creativity, and study collaboration strategies and dynamic art integration lesson plan development strategies. National Gallery of Art Teacher Institute Summer 2009
"Crosscurrents of American Art: 18th and 19th Centuries" will explore American art of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, emphasizing the country's rich and diverse visual heritage. Lectures, gallery talks, discussion groups, and hands-on activities will focus on American paintings and their ties to European traditions of fine art, as well as ceremonial and utilitarian art objects created by created by enslaved and free Blacks. Native Americans stories will emphasize the importance of the oral tradition across tribal boundaries. The seminar highlights the social and cultural context of art and demonstrates interdisciplinary teaching strategies. Participants will explore connections to literature and music and visit other local cultural institutions. Two six-day sessions will be held—Session 1: July 13-18, 2009, and Session 2: July 27-August 1, 2009. For more information, visit www.nga.gov.
Future of Learning Institute: Preparing Minds for the 21st Century
At the dawn of the twenty-first century, important changes in our societies are transforming the lives of young people around the world. Globalization, the digital revolution, and advancements in our understanding of human biology all present new opportunities and challenges to today's educators. Harvard Graduate School of Education's Future of Learning Institute, entitled "Preparing Minds for the 21st Century," is designed to help educators understand how changes in society are affecting learning today and in the future.
